Hmm, that narrows it down to about ten million mindlessly ignorant faith-based songs sung by white men with guitars. Maybe if there was a "come baby Jesus" thrown in there I could have whittled it down a bit more, but unfortunately Lord, You are Lord, You are Lord" is a bit vague, not to mention annoying.

I need help with a mean father?
Hi,
I am 18 years old and I have two younger siblings, a brother 13 and a sister 16. For the past 4 years or so, my father has been particuarly mean to me and my mother. He never says hello to me, laughs and yells in my face, makes mumbling noises or laughs ("ha ha") whenever he is around me, calls me an ungrateful bitch. He is equally mean to my mother.
But the thing that upsets me is his double standards that he applies to his selective love to his offspring. He tells me he hates me, but tells my brother and sister that he loves them and that they’re such a good boy/girl right infront of me, which then he proceeds to look at me as if he’s saying it on purpose. He sucks right up their asses. He’s paying for my sister to go to America for a holiday for the 2nd time, and taking my brother to Disneyland for his birthday, when he failed to say happy birthday to me, or even a hello on my birthday. He took a ‘family’ holiday earlier this year - first saying that it was boys only (him and brother), but failed to tell my mum that my sister was going too. My mum begged and cried to come on holiday as she thinks my brother is growing up too fast and wants to cherish these precious moments, but he refused. And it wasn’t because of a shortage funds. He didn’t want I or my mother there.
Another thing that hurts me is the way he treats my boyfriend. My boyfriend is handsome, intelligent and a real gentleman when it comes to relationships and women. Yet when he comes to my house, he says hello to my dad and he says nothing back and walks in the opposite direction - when my boyfriend has done nothing wrong. However if my sister or brother invites friends over, he laughs and tells jokes, makes them banana milkshakes and is nice and friendly to them.
It’s so unfair! I have not done anything since year 9, I got excellent grades in my final year of highschool, but there wasn’t a single congratulations or well done from him regarding my efforts.
I don’t know what to do. I want to move out but have nor the resources or money to move. I confide in my boyfriend sometimes, but there’s not much he can do. My mum knows how he treats me, and they get into fights about it, but my dad is so blind by his actions - he thinks that what he’s doing is completely normal. He won’t pay for food, or the odd textbook I require for Uni, or even a birthday card, yet has all this money for holidays and golf carts. He also afforded to get a copy of my car keys, so he can move it off an on the driveway - he could just ask me to move it? It’s just another way to avoid contact with me.

This can be considered abusive behavior. Also making a copy of your car keys can be illegal if it was without your permission. Solving this type of problem is tough. It depends on how you want to handle it. You can call the police or department of social services. You can also just suck it up and carry on with your life. Either choice is tough to make and what you want to deal with.

Regardless of this man’s reasoning for his obvious difference of treatment regarding you and your mother, this is his home. Regardless as to why your mother continues to stay with him, you are an adult at 18 and are now living on borrowed time and what little graciousness he does have by allowing you to stay in the home.

Don’t look for answers as to why he’s behaving this way or that way. Just stay focused on what you need to do while you must remain in this home. Your mother may not be able to stand ground for you because she may have her own reasons for not wanting to make too much of an issue about it other than a few fights when the treatment gets too unbearable. Just know this, that you are an adult… you must look to be responsible for yourself even though you may be looking for additional parental care while you’re still going to school.

Your boyfriend merely adds additional tension and I would recommend going somewhere other than your home to spend time with him. Seriously start planning and saving for your independent living arrangements as your father’s behavior is apparently only getting to be more progressive. Also there could be more sinister things advancing besides just the hostility you’re interpreting in him. He could advance to the stages of physical abuse of either you, your mother, your boyfriend or even your other siblings. I recommend staying with another person for a few days to ascertain what type of effect your being gone has on him. You may find that you’ll want to try to move sooner than later.

If all else fails, contact a local church or even a counselor at your school and inform someone that this behavior is going on. They might have resources you could try or if nothing else it will serve as a testimony of sorts if things become too far out of control. Whatever you decide to do, try not to dwell on your father’s treatment of you versus the treatment of your siblings. This will only further upset you and it seems that your father apparently receives some twisted pleasure from causing these feelings within you. Do not give him this satisfaction over you. If need be, treat him as a generous host allowing you temporary privilege to stay in his home for the duration of your stay in the home while you’re attending school.

Drums will take years to get good, if you have talent. The pros still learn and improve after decades.

Learning inline skating is much faster. You should be up and skating in a few days with the basic movement skills. You won’t look out of place and skating is a good, low impact, way go get exercise and tone up the legs, bottom, and waist.

Why does my father-in-law behave this way?
My father-in-law has several behaviors that I cannot understand and need explanations for:
1) He roams around in his underwear brief in front of me and changes his clothes in front of me although me and my husband have told him not to.
2) He keeps scratching and rubbing his penis and balls and one one occassion did that while I was casually talking about lunch with him and he was standing just 2 feet away.
3) Once very recently, he was lying on the bed with his back to me in my house, watching tv, and he knew I was behind him sitting on a chair watching tv too. He put his hand behind in his pajamas and began scratching his butt, then used his fingers to scratch his butt hole and then his hand went lower and he used his fingers to scratch his balls hard.
4) He always interrupts me while I am talking with my husband and tells him to do other things.
5) Once he insisted that I cook for the day when I and my mother had already informed him day before that we will be going out to celebrate my first wedding anniversary in a restaurant as I was tired and I would get a break from cooking.
6) He stands too close to me when I am working in the kitchen (about one feet) and once when I had bent to remove dishes from the dishwasher, I was unware he came behind me and then he poked my butt with his finger and said "Hey, move aside!" He then took a dish from the dishwasher.
7) Twice he came into me and my husband’s room without knocking. The first time was when I was a 3 month old new bride and it was 5:30 am in the morning. The second time was recently, where he opened the door without knocking at 2:30 am (both times the door did not have a lock) in the morning because he said he thought it was 5 or 6 am in the morning and he saw the lights on in our room. He did this although my husband has always told him to knock before opening the door.

My background information is that we are from India but living in US, and my father-in-law is living with my husband. I and my husband have to live far apart (1500 miles) due to our jobs. I get to see my father-in-laws behaviors whenever I visit my husband or they visit me. I am always wondering why my father-in-law behaves this way and if father-in-laws typically behave this way?

No it’s not normal. He is clearly overstepping his bounds by making you uncomfortable. He either knows it bothers you and does it anyway, or is just one of those people that has no consideration for how others feel. Next time he’s scratching himself, get up and leave the room, or if he’s talking to you while doing, tell him he can finish talking to you when he’s done (and then you leave the room).
As for the kitchen, turn and face him, ask if there is something he needs or if he wants to cook instead and ask him to give you some room.

It may be very hard to say these things to him, but you must stand up for yourself. Make sure your husband knows about these and ask for his help in getting him to stop.

I used to date a guys who’s father was like this, and was always trying to get me to kiss him hello on the lips, or "accidentally" touching my butt. He was in a wheelchair so I felt bad for him, but finally I realized he was just being a creepy lech.

TECHIES! Camcorder Questions! ANSWER!?
I’m going to buy a camcorder within the next couple of months. I want it to be the only camcorder that I’ll ever purchase, so it has to meet all my requirements. My main requirements are:
- Long battery life (after each charge)
- Night-shot/night-vision/infrared (or whatever else it’s called)
- Good visual quality
- Handheld
- Long recording time (40+ hours)
- Digital still photographs (whatever the quality)
- No more than ?500 (preferably around ?250)

My questions are…

- I don’t have a HD television and I don’t plan to buy it any time soon, but I do want good quality recordings (I’d be happy with this kind of quality http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JfJ0-jYY hc or perhaps even a bit lower) — should I buy a HD camcorder? Will the quality be the same/similar as it would look on a HD screen if played on a SD screen?

- I know HDD cameras can record for hours. How many hours (per disk) can the average flash camcorder record? And the average DVD camcorder? Is a much larger capacity disk available to purchase separately? If so, how much (?)?

- How are HDD/Flash recordings put into DVD disks? Does it have to be saved on to the computer first? Can the recording be edited whilst in the camcorder?

- For those who have a bit more time on their hands… I plan to buy my camcorder at Argos. Your budget barely gets out of the "pocket" camcorder category and into the entry level consumer camcorder category.

No camcorder comes with a battery in the box that has a "long life". The same battery will last longer if there are fewer moving parts on the camcorder - so flash memory can extend shooting time. For really long life, you will need to get an optional high capacity rechargeable battery. I got two for my small camcorder (HDR-HC1) each can last up to 3 hours. I got one for my big camcorder (HDR-FX1) - it lasts up to 6 hours. I rarely use the batteries that came in the box with the camcorders…

"Night-shot/night-vision/infrared" means Sony. There is no new Sony consumer camcorder made that has NightShot, NightShot Plus or SuperNightShot mode and meets your budget.

Long recording time - for the media? That is not a good idea for a requirement. If you get a hard disc drive based camcorder and it breaks or is stolen before you have transferred the video to a computer, then you will have an expensive challenge getting that video. Much better to use removable media like flash memory or miniDV tape.

Using YouTube to judge video quality is not a good idea - whomever posts the video compresses the video to make it suitable for uploading - then the video is compressed again before YouTube allows viewers.

You should buy the best resolution, least compression, highest quality image you can afford. In a camcorder, this is a combination of large lenses, large imaging chips, and least compression applied to the digital video stream when that data is written to the storage media.

While not on your list, the lens/imaging chip combination are what allow a camcorder to do well - or not to well - in low light or indoor lighting conditions. There are many reasons pro camcorders are big - one of them is the lenses are large and the camera needs to deal with that. Large lenses let in light. Small lenses do not. Under good lighting conditions, any camcorder can capture good quality images.

Standard definition DVD camcorders should never be purchased by anyone. Best quality record time is 20 minutes on the 8cm blank DVD. This is the same for the AVCHD high def ones too. Since consumer DVD camcorders are such a bad idea, that is all I’ll say about them.

Because HDD camcorders have known problems with vibration, high altitude and data recovery, I do not recommend them. Flash memory camcorders use the same high compression formats - given a choice between the two, flash memory wins. The vibration can be from loud audio like bands - amplified or not, loud engines (race cars, planes, etc.), even loud crowds. The hard drive head will park in its effort to protect the platters form being scruffed by the head due to the vibration. As for altitude, the head needs to "fly" over the platters - there is not enough air pressure at high altitude for this to happen - again, the head will park and not capture video to the hard drive.

Process flow for HDD, flash and miniDV tape based camcorders:
Capture the video - same for all camcorder storage media.
Transfer/import the video to a computer - flash memory and HDD copy the files over USB; miniDV tape imports the video over firewire.
Archive the video - flash memory and HDD camcorders means making copies of the files for long term storage either into a RAID1 hard drive array connected to the computer or burning DVDs and hoping they don’t get scratched or get disc rot; with miniDV tape, don’t re-use the tape, it is the archive;
Edit the video.
Render the video out to the format your audience uses.
Render #1: Low or medium quality for uploading to YouTube or Vimeo.
Render #2: Medium or high quality for local computer playback.
Render #3: Whatever the DVD authoring application applies (to highly compressed VOB files) and burn that disc - it will be standard definition and will play using a regular DVD player.
Render #4: MP4 for iPod/iPod Touch/iPhone use through iTunes or whatever personal multimedia device you use.
Render #5: This applies ONLY to miniDV tape based camcorders and is most advantageous if you want to watch the high definition video on a HDTV without connecting a computer or "media canter" like device (Apple TV, etc) for playback… export the finished project back the the camcorder - use the camcorder as a playback deck connected with component + audio cables or HDMI cable to the HDTV.
Render #6: If your computer has a BluRay burner - or if you have a BluRay player connected to a HDTV, then burning a BluRay compatible file/disc would be appropriate. Personally, I think BluRay for video is already dying (which is why the players are so cheap) since you can download or stream high definition content…

If you read the camcorder manuals, you will see there are some rudimentary editing tasks possible. I would not bother with them - the computer based editors are much more powerful, even the bundled video editors…

Is this a HIPAA violation?
My husband works in a teaching hospital doing EEGs. Sometimes something on an EEG will indicate a brain lesion that could be confirmed by seeing an MRI. My husband was told by his manager that it was allowed and acceptable to look at a patient’s imaging for educational purposes. So he had a patient that he performed several EEG’s on, saw something that indicated a brain lesion and looked at the patients MRI to confirm. Now his manager’s supervisor is trying to charge him with violating HIPAA. It just doesn’t seem right. His manager gave him consent to look at imaging and MRIs are very closely related to EEGs. Also he was looking at the EEG of his own patient. To top it off his Supervisor told him that ordinarily it wouldn’t matter but the patient just happened to be a high profile patient. So famous people are entitled to more privacy than the rest of us? It just seems wrong to me.

Also if looking at that imaging was a HIPAA violation, how does his manager giving him the okay to do that effect any disciplinary action he might receive? If his behavior was innappropriate he was only doing what he had been instructed was ok to do, and any breach of HIPAA would have been a complete accident.

Thoughts? This is really stressing us out.

The manager who gave consent no longer works at that hospital. If his co workers testify that they remember being given permission would that be enough to save his job? Or if they testified that they were given consent to look at other imaging for educational purposes (namely comparing Angios to TCD’s) would that be enough to prove accessing imaging for educational purposes was encouraged an consented to in his department?

It seems that the manager is just looking for someone to blame it on. He knows that shouldn’t have been allowed, but he approved, and now its coming back on the manager, and thus he is blaming it on your husband.

Im sure you can call the HIPAA, or anyone who is above that manager and explain to them the situation, and hopefully your husband doesnt get in trouble.

I also work as a PT, and although it is sad, but clients who are considered as "high noteriety" do get more of a better treatment, as well as better privacy.

Unfortunately HIPAA was written by people with a bureaucratic mind, for people with bureaucratic minds. There is no room for cover. Your husband should not have looked at the MRI’s without an express request for that particular patient.

The only way it would be a HIPPA violation would be if he was accessing the records and diagnostic tests of someone who is not his patient OR showing the information of his patient to another person just for the sake of showing it but not in an attempt to get another opinion or help. If I were him I would go to someone over that person’s head or HR and get the whole thing taken care of. Either it is acceptable or it isn’t but there should be a clear policy in place and the mangager can not say it is not policy for some patients but policy for others who are more important. ALL patients are important and deserve the same respect and privacy so if it is okay for average Joe then it must be okay for paparazzi pete.

As a nurse, it doesn’t sound like a HIPAA violation, of course, if he was spreading the information around then it might be. My suggestion would be is to go back to the manager about your concerns. Then I would go to Risk Management and check with them. For education reasons, it shouldn’t really matter. Maybe the supervisor is concerned because there may not have been a release of information signed but if you think of nursing students doing the same thing as you….that’s not a HIPAA violation. what can i do to stop liking someone?
i met this girl 2 years ago. i liked her when i first met her and my feelings became deeper when we started working together. eventually she knew i liked her and tried to like me back but it didn’t work. she got together with her first bf and we stopped talking. but they ended 1 month later and we started talking again like i wasn’t trying to ignore her when she was with her ex. a few months ago, i admitted to her that i still liked her but things just went bad. we barely treated each other like friends and at that point, i gave up and tried to cut ties with her. its been 2 months now since we stopped talking. but we started talking again and it even got to the point where she wanted to be better friends. she got together with another guy last week and she fell for him. now that she is with him, it feels like im hurting and everytime we see each other, i ignore her, not bothering to say "hi" or anything and she wonders why also. so how can i really let my feelings for her go away?
